During his career, Jiménez, who played as a left defender, appeared for Sevilla FC during 14 professional seasons. He made his first division debut playing one match in 1983–84, then proceeded to amass nearly 400 overall appearances with his hometown club. He retired after one season with neighbours Real Jaén, in the second level.Jiménez earned 15 caps for the Spanish national team. He earned his first cap on 12 October 1988, in a friendly match against Argentina, played in Seville. He was selected for the 1990 FIFA World Cup squad, appearing against Uruguay in the group stage (0–0).
